The 80th season of Amateur Night at the Apollo opened in historic form! It was an evening perfectly outfitted to celebrate the Apollo Theater's enduring legacy.

The show began with a touching induction of Chuck Jackson into the Apollo Walk of Fame. Mr. Jackson is a rhythm and blues legend with a history spanning 56 years of performance at the Apollo Theater.  The tribute included a commemorative video, a musical salute sung by previous Amateur Night champ Charles Mack and a presentation of a plaque by Apollo's President and CEO Jonelle Procope.

Following the legend, it was time for the Stars of Tomorrow segment. The contestants' talent was incredible! Taking home first place was 10-year old opera singer Laura Bretan who sang to a standing ovation!

As the adult segment began, the audience readied themselves to participate in the booing that has been the hallmark of the Amateur Night experience since 1934.  The crowd found themselves pleasantly dismayed, however, when the adult contestants brought their A-game! The talent was so great that none of the evening's contestants were booed off! See who won!

If all of that talent didn't complete the night, the icing on the cake was a throw-down, standing ovation performance by the world's greatest entertainer himself, Harlem's own Doug E. Fresh! Standing on the edge of the stage, Doug E did the Dougie, spit rhymes from his mouth, beats from his throat and turned the house completely upside-down with his high-energy, hip hop routine. He showed us how true Apollo Legends get down!

Most exciting is that this season is only just getting started! Amateur Night at the Apollo will run every Wednesday now through November 24th!  The talent and the experience will only get better!  Join the party and GET YOUR TICKETS!

Amateur Night at the Apollo opens its 2014 season with a brand new line-up of contestants who compete for the chance to perform during the March 5 Show Off and move on to Top Dog on May 21. It all leads to the chance of winning the title of Super Top Dog and a cash prize of $10,000 in November!

Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend.  Then get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage.  At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone!

Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. And keep a lookout for master impressionist C.P. Lacey, the resident Executioner who sweeps bad talent off the stage.
The contestants are Julissa Lopez, Tim Davis, Laura Bretan and Henry Smith

The night was electric and the talent was on fire! The 79th Annual Super Top Dog Amateur Night at the Apollo Finale was a night full of champions.

Claire Kwon, a 13-year old singer from Glen Rock, NJ belted out  “Santa Fe” from the acclaimed Broadway musical Newsies to win the grand prize of $2000 for the Child Stars of Tomorrow. Watch Video

The adult grand prize was clinched by Japanese dance duo Numbers.  The pair danced their way into the finale by presenting an incredibly choreographed piece that incorporated modern dance with a unique arrangement of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Watch Video

Amateur Night Producer Marion Caffey had this to say:  “[This season] represented such diverse talent and that was my goal for this show. I am proud for those who won last place to first place because they are all truly, truly phenomenal.” Watch Video

Next season, Amateur Night at the Apollo celebrates its 80th Anniversary!  Stay tuned! It will be a very special season where stars will be born and legends will be made.
